26 x 14 Kick Drum

My new record for ‘Fastest Drum Build’ has been set.

I ordered this 26x14 jarrah/mahogany/jarrah shell with crabapple/jarrah re-rings from Metro Drums and there were a couple of unavoidable delays, meaning it got to me on a Tuesday and I wanted it ready for the Echuca-Moama Winter Blues Festival the same Friday.

Spent every spare non-working minute I had getting it right.

Final construction details are: turquoise oyster wrap, Kelly Shu mount with an Evans EQ kick pad, tackle hoop protector, and DW clip on legs. ¼” round over edges with a 45 degree back cut. Hoops rounded over and finished with hard shellac and traditional wax. Was going to wrap them but they look nice as is. Cool front head from Spyda’s drum heads, and an Evans EQ4 batter.

Had it ready with 21 hours to spare and it is so much fun to play. Totally impractical size to cram in the car for a road trip and fit on most stages, but I guess that means the guitarists just have to cram in closer to each other!
